Technique of the Month - April 2007

Deflecting Hammer
(defense against a right step - through front kick)

  1. From a natural stance, hands up.

  2. Step back with left into a right neutral bow with a right downward deflecting block, left hand covers high.

  3. Push - drag shuffle forward with a right roundhouse elbow to the face as left hand checks opponent's right arm.

 

Beginner Student Questions

  1. When performing the block in this technique, you are employing a method called frictional pull. What does frictional pull do to help make this technique more effective?
 

Advanced Student Questions

  1. If you looked at the path that the right block/ elbow combination follows, you would see that it is shaped like a half circle. What other Kenpo kick defense technique follows this same path?
