Technique of the Month - April 2006

Glancing Spear
(left direct wrist grab)

  1. Step back to 6:00 with right foot into a left reverse bow as the right hand circles under counter-clockwise and grabs the opponent's wrist (transition); push-drag shuffle forward into a left neutral bow with a left outward elbow to the opponent's ribs as the right hand maintains grab and the left hand pins on top of the opponent's arm with a waiter's hand check.
  2. Pivot into a left forward bow  with a right straight finger thrust to the opponent's eyes after the right hand slaps down on the opponent's arm; the left hand changes to a grab.
  3. Do a left front crossover to 6:00, drawing the opponent's right foot with you until it "releases", landing in a left front twist stance.
  4. Deliver a right reverse roundhouse sweep to the opponent's right leg, ending in an open front twist stance, facing 10:30.
  5. Deliver a right looping downward roundhouse kick to the opponent's solar plexus; cover out.
