Technique of the Month - July/August 2004

Buckling Branch
(
left front kick defense)

From a natural stance:

  1. Step to 4:30 with your right foot while delivering a right inside downward / left downward outward block against the kick.
  2. Deliver a right step thru scoop kick to the groin and land forward in a right front twist stance.
  3. Deliver a left knife-edge kick to the back of the opponent's right knee and cover out.

 Questions

  1. What fundamental rule are you breaking when starting your defense with the right front scoop kick to the groin? What rule are you following with that kick?
  2. What can be done to ensure that the rule can be broken?
  3. The front kick/twist stance/side kick combination is done in an earlier Yellow Belt technique. Which one?
