Technique of the Month - April 2004

Thrusting Prongs
(front bear hug - arms pinned - defense)

  1. Step back with right foot to 6:00 while pressing into the groin/hip flexor area with thumb "prongs".
  2. Deliver a right step thru knee kick to the opponents' groin as the left hand pins on top of the opponents' right arm, the right arm pulls back into the chamber.
  3. Land closing your center line with a right inward elbow to the opponents' face while the left hand maintains check.

  1. What is the purpose of the first move?
  2. What would you do instead of a knee kick  if the first move moved him back farther than you expected?
 

Advanced Student Questions

  1. What technique(s) uses a roundhouse knee (instead of straight) / inward elbow combination?
  2. What would you do instead of an inward elbow if your opponent was too bent over from the knee to the groin?
