Technique of the Month - February 2004

Scraping Hoof
(attempted full-nelson)

As hands start to apply hold:
  1. Step to 9:00 with left into a modified horse stance as you deliver 2 inverted vertical punches to the face and then drop elbows down.
  2. Slide left foot back into a horse stance as you punch to the ground with both hands.
  3. Pivot to a right rear bow stance and then deliver a right rear scoop kick to the inside  of the opponents' knee, a right side kick to the inside of the opponents' other knee, scrape down the front of the opponents shin and deliver a right front stomp kick to the opponents' foot.
  4. Pivot to a left rear bow and repeat the above kicking sequence with the left foot.
 

Beginner Student Questions

  1. Beginners have a tendency to look down at their feet when first learning this technique. Why isn't that a good idea?
  2. What is the importance of using the rear bow stance in this technique?
 

Advanced Student Questions

  1. There are two versions of this technique demonstrated in the forms Short 3 and Long 3. Why would you do one instead of the other?
