Technique of the Month - January 2004

Twirling Wings
(rear stiff two arm shoulder grab)

  1. From a natural stance, step left to 5:00 (transitional) and pivot into a left neutral bow with a left vertical outward block as the right hand chambers at the hip.
  2. Pivot into a left forward bow with a right inward elbow to the ribs as the left maintains the check.
  3. Pivot back to a left neutral bow with a left inward elbow to the ribs as the right maintains the check.

  1. What does the code name "wings" refer to in Kenpo?
  2. Why is a forward bow used to deliver the right inward elbow?
 

Advanced Student Questions

  1. Name another technique that uses a left forward bow with a vertical outward block on the outside of the opponents' left.
  2. Name a technique that uses a right forward bow with a left vertical outward block on the outside of the opponents' left.
