Technique of the Month - October 2003

Attacking Mace
(right straight punch defense)

  1. From a natural stance, step back into a left neutral bow while delivering a left thrusting inward block.
  2. Pivot into a left forward bow with a right straight thrust punch to the opponents' ribs, the left hand is checking high.
  3. Deliver a right step thru forward kick to the opponents' solar plexus as the right hand pulls the opponents' right hand to the hip.
  4. Pivot into a right forward bow with a left uppercut punch to the ribs, the right hand maintains grab, the right leg is pressing check on the knee.
 

Beginner Student Questions

  1. What are the two purposes of the first punch of the technique?
  2. Name another technique that uses a kick for that purpose.
 

Advanced Student Questions

  1. If you understand what the first punch is supposed to do, what technique(s) teach(es) us the answer for it if the punch doesn't do that?
  2. What technique provides the perfect follow-up or suffix to this technique?
