Catching up…..

It’s been two months since our last newsletter. I’d like to welcome everyone back from their summer vacations and hope that you all enjoyed your summer as much as I did. Boy, what a great summer!

-On June 26th I was promoted to the rank of 6th degree Black Belt by my instructor Steve White from Manchester , Nh. There is a nice write up about it on the site.

-We ended June with our annual summer camp, also known as the adventure camp. 8 lucky MVKS students spent their days with me for a week training in Karate, having a field day, a nature hike, glow bowling, Water Country, and a movie day. As always, it was a great way to kick off the summer, as we took a vacation week after.

-We ended July with our inaugural weapons camp. Another 8 lucky MVKS students spent their days with me for a week training in karate, the bow staff, the escrima stick, and the nunchucku.

It was a brutally hot week but the MVKS Campers toughed it out as we spent the bulk of the week training at the McCollum field. I really enjoyed this camp because it was the first time I’ve been able to dig deep into the use if these weapons, and what a blast we all has fusing them into our Kenpo. It even inspired me to create a kenpo weapons form with the nunchuck, as well as a curriculum to go with it. My instructor Mr. White liked the form so much, he feels that it should be part of a Kenpo schools’ curriculum. Very Cool.

-We ended August with our bi-annual Black Belt pre-test, and I am proud to announce the candidacy of Brendan Amadon, Sarah McGlauflin, and Camryn Quinlan. They have since passes their first test and are working hard toward their second exam at the end of this month. When you see these students in the back room, be sure to congratulate them and encourage them as they prepare for their next test. On another note, should Camryn Quinlan pass her exam, she will join her sister Erin and her cousin Austin in the Black Belt Class. She will also be my youngest Black Belt ever, as she turns a whopping 9 years old this October. She has been practicing with me since she was 4!

This Month...

MVKS celebrates its teaching staff!  Join us Friday, September 18th from 7 - 9:00pm for our annual Teachers’ Appreciation Night! It will be a pot-luck dinner, so bring in your favorite dish to share and take a moment to get to know some of the awesome teaching staff. Their selfless help makes MVKS the great school that it is!! Look for the sign up sheet on the bulletin board. There you can list what items that you can bring. That way we can balance out the menu better. Hope you can make it!
