Last Month
As I write this,
Our Black Belt candidates have passed their first two of three exams and are
preparing for their 3rd and final exam in May. They have been working
very hard in the back room and the results have been very good. I feel pretty
certain that the next time I write about them I’ll be writing about their
upcoming promotion to Black Belt! Keep up the good work, candidates!
We held a buddy
week promotion during week 2 and had over 15 friends and family members come to
MVKS for a week of free lessons. I’d like to thank all of the MVKS members who
brought someone in. I‘ve always felt that the best schools are built from
within, and buddy weeks are the best way to do that. The classes were a lot of
fun, and that’s a credit to all the teachers who went above and beyond to make
our guests feel welcome.
We held a special movie event that week on
Friday night. A big thanks from everyone to Alora Pickerings’ dad. He brought
his movie projector in and we turned the back room into a movie theater and
watched the movie Kung Fu Panda on a super sized screen! There was plenty of
drinks and snacks for everyone, and all in all, the night was a big success. One
last thanks to the volunteers who stayed after and helped clean up. We’ll
definitely have to do this again!
This Month...
You’ve probably
seen the flyers already, but I am proud and honored to have been asked to teach
a seminar at the upcoming Kenpo Camp scheduled for May 1st and 2nd.
Joining me on Friday night will be Mr. Marc Sigle, a 3rd degree Black
Belt from Germany!
Anyone who has
been to see Mr. Wedlake teach knows what a professional he is, and those who
haven’t should seriously consider taking advantage of this opportunity to learn
from him. He is a first generation Black Belt under Ed Parker, the founder of
our system. Mr. Wedlake has over 40 years experience in the martial arts and is
the embodiment of what a martial arts master is. Everything kenpo taught at MVKS
comes through this man!
This Camp has
been nicknamed the “ My 3 Sons “ Camp, as it will be taught by Mr Wedlakes’ only
3 7th degree Black Belts. They are: Mr. Gary Ellis from Plymouth,
England, Mr. Graham Lelliot, from Sacramento, California, and our own Mr. Steven
White ( my teacher ) from Manchester, NH.
This is a very
rare opportunity to learn from the 4 highest ranking Black Belts in our lineage,
and I hope students from MVKS can make it to this special event. You
can get a registration form at MVKS, or download it from our website. The
registration deadline is April 17th.
I am working to keep our school
open for Friday, May 1st, but we will be closed Saturday, May 2nd
Welcome New Students!

News and Notes:
- Martial Arts Picture Day
is April 15th. Kickphotos USA will be at the Studio taking pictures
all evening in the back room. You can get an order form from me and schedule
your time slot on the bulletin board. The MVKS Staff photo is scheduled for
7:00. Please wear a clean, fully patched uniform.
- MVKS is soon to be a
charter member of the Derry Judo Club, one of the top 25 clubs in the USA. This
means that we can award rank through the United States Judo Association! Classes
will continue to be held 2x a month, under the direction of my Instructor, Mr.
Chris Veziris, a 6th degree Black Belt in Kodokan Judo. Check the
calendar for this months’ class dates.
-Once again we’ve been asked
to participate in the Mont Vernon Spring Gala. We’ll be marching in the parade,
and putting on a demonstration. This years Gala will have a Hawaiian theme,
which is perfect for us since that’s where Ed Parker was from!
-As a community service, we
will be once again offering a free Womens self defense for all the MVKS Moms and
their friends. It will be held next month, date tba.
