Last Month
We held a Black
Belt pre-test on the 14th and we now have 5 new Black Belt
Candidates! Congratulations to Jaimie Cates, Doug Kolb, Megan Manha, Austin
Quinlan, and Elisabeth Wilson. They passed their pre-test and have begun their
three months of testing for Black Belt! You’ll see them out in the back room
preparing for their exams, so please wish them well, and offer some assistance
if you’re able. This is a very exciting time for them, and over the next few
months they’ll be living, eating and breathing Kenpo as they go through this
challenging 3 month process. Good luck to all of you!
MVKS went to the Manchester Monarchs on the 21st,
and saw a pretty lopsided victory, 7 -2 , over the Lowell Devils. It was Martial
Arts Night at the Verizon Arena, and students from all over NH were there
representing their schools. Our school was well represented, with over 25 people
in attendance. The Monarchs do an excellent job providing affordable family
entertainment, and I really enjoy going to their games with my family. Hopefully
we can get together as a school and go see a Fisher Cats baseball game this
summer!
This Month...
We are
having a Buddy Week promotion during week 2 of the next cycle, March 23rd
thru the 28th. Students who have a friend or family member who may be
interested in taking Karate lessons can bring them as a guest for free lessons
all week. Page 4 of this newsletter has a Buddy Week invitation form for you to
give to your friend or family member. All guests this week are required to bring
this form with them to class as it contains necessary contact information and a
waiver for parents to sign. -

We are
having a family movie night on Friday, March 27th at 7:00. We’ll be
turning the back room into a movie theater for the movie Kung Fu Panda. Students
may bring their families and their buddies to this event. We will be providing
snacks and drinks, so we kindly ask that you sign up so that we can have enough
for everybody. Look for the sign up sheet on the bulletin board.
The
deadline for Summer Camp sign ups is March 31st. We currently have 4
openings in each camp. The reason for the deadline is so that I can plan for
the proper rental vehicle for the day trips scheduled for each week.
You’ve probably seen the flyers already, but I am proud and honored to have been
asked to teach a seminar at the upcoming Kenpo Camp scheduled for May 1st
and 2nd. This Camp has been nicknamed the “ My 3 Sons “ Camp, as it
will be taught by Mr Wedlakes’ only 3 7th degree Black Belts. This is
very rare to have an opportunity to learn from Mr Wedlakes’ 3 top guys, and I
hope students from MVKS can make it to this special event. Students who register
before April 1st can save $20. off the camp investment

Other
News and Notes:
- The new BB Prep Class
schedule has almost finished its’ first cycle, with impressive results. I’ve
seen some real improvements with some of our students, especially our younger
ones, with the added time we now have.
-The extra time has allowed
us to train in some extracurricular material as well, and we’ve been playing
with the escrima sticks on Mondays and Thursdays. We’re going to continue
training with them next cycle, and I’d like to gently remind the students in
this class that they should look into getting a pair of sticks of their own, so
that we don’t run short like we have on some nights.
- We will be sparring during
week three of the next cycle, due to our Buddy Week promotion.
-With Spring fast
approaching, we’ll be taking orders for t-shirts this month. Order forms will be
sent home the week of March 16th. Look for yet another cool new
design this year!
-Once again we’ve been
asked to participate in the Mont Vernon Spring Gala. We’ll be marching in the
parade, and putting on a demonstration. This years Gala will have a Hawaiian
theme, which is perfect for us since that’s where Ed Parker was from!
-As a community service, we
will be once again offering a free Womens self defense for all the MVKS Moms and
their friends. It will be held next month, date tba.
