Last Month
We all had
our lives turned upside down as a result of a terrible ice storm on Thursday,
Dec 11th. This storm closed our school until Tuesday the 16th.
That really put a wrench in the gears, as far as our schedule went, for trying
to teach people their third technique of the cycle, as well as testing and
promoting people before we closed for the Christmas holiday. For some people, I
am sure it was the least of their worries as many people were struggling without
any power, some as much as 9 days or more! Throughout the week, the classes grew
slowly as more and more people were getting their power back, and trying to get
their lives back to normal.
Mother
nature wasn’t through with us yet, as she dumped a solid foot of snow on us the
night of our scheduled Christmas party, and, to make matters worse, I had
problems with my phone, so I couldn’t change the message on the schools’
answering machine to announce that the party had been cancelled. To those of you
who ventured out, I am truly sorry for the unnecessary trip you made. The storm
also made it hard for some of our Black Belts to attend the step exam that we
had moved up from the 13th to the 20th, so we will have a
make up step for all who couldn’t attend on Saturday, Jan 17th (
weather permitting! )
I have
since had my phone repaired, and would like to remind everyone that in the event
of inclement weather, please call the school 1 hour before your scheduled class,
and the answering machine will say whether or not we are closed for classes. If
the machine doesn’t say we’re closed, we are open. Some of you have called and
asked me to call you if we are open, and I’m sorry but I just don’t have the
time to call everyone. We will also notify WZID 95.7 of our closing, and, if
possible, will post it on the home page of our website.
This Month...
A make up Black Belt exam is
scheduled for Saturday, January 17th @12:30. All Black Belts who
could not make the December step who have met their point requirements are
expected to attend. All Black Belts who did not qualify will have their points
roll over towards their next step exam in June. Good Luck, Everyone!
Of the Black Belts who
were able to make it to the Step Exam on the 20th, I am proud to
announce the promotion of Brendan Poor to the rank of 2nd Degree
Black Belt. Congratulations Brendan! You did a great job and we’re all proud of
you and the growth and maturity you’ve shown since you got your Black Belt two
years ago.
As a Christmas gift to
all of our assistant Instructors, I have helped to make arrangements to have my
instructors’ instructor, Mr Lee Wedlake, a 9th degree Black Belt and
1st generation student under Ed Parker, fly up from Florida to teach
at an Instructors Camp in Manchester January 24th. To better plan
for the event, please let me know if you can attend asap. And, THANK YOU TEACHERS, you help make our school great!

When you
thought I wasn’t looking…
Author unknown
When you thought I wasn’t
looking
I saw you hang my first painting on the refrigerator, and I wanted to paint
another one
When you thought I wasn’t
looking
I saw you feed a stray cat,
And I thought it was good to be kind to animals
When you thought I wasn’t
looking
I saw you make my favorite cake for me
And I knew that little things are special things
When you thought I wasn’t
looking
I felt you kiss me goodnight
And I felt loved
When you thought I wasn’t
looking
I saw tears come from your eyes,
And I learned that sometimes things hurt,
But it’s alright to cry
When you thought I wasn’t
looking
I saw that you cared and wanted to be everything I could be
When you thought I wasn’t
looking
I looked…and wanted to say thanks
For all the things I saw when you thought I wasn’t looking
