LAST MONTH ...
Black Belt Candidates
Pass 1st Exam, Move On
Congratulations
to Peyton Dannewitz, Jack Granfors, Raju Gandhi, Mackenzie Peacock, Spencer
Sottile, and Elisabeth White. They passed their 1st of three Black
Belt tests last month and have been living, eating, and breathing Kenpo for
last 2 months. I have been very impressed with their work. It seems like every
night there have been at least two candidates in the back room working out.
Please wish them well if you see them, or better yet, offer to help them out if
you see them in the back room practicing.
2 Man Set
seminar
Last months rank
specific special was for the Red, Brown and Black Belts. We cancelled classes on
a Wednesday night for a special class on the Kenpo 2 man set. 10 of you came
down for an interesting class on this unique form, which is practiced by two
people. From what I understand it was a Kung Fu form taught to Ed Parker by a
man named Jimmy Wang Woo from California back in the late 50’s/ early 60’s.
Apparently Ed Parker liked the concepts behind the movements and adopted it into
his system. It’s a lot of fun to do, and I think it would make for a great demo
form at this years’ Spring Gala. I’ve been practicing this form in my
bi-monthly class with Mr. White for the last few months and thought it would be
neat to share it with our advanced students.
Our School Has Grown, And
So Has Our Teaching Staff!
As I’m sure you’ve noticed, our schools
enrollment has increased, with almost 25 new members since last December.
That’s an increase of about 25%. Thank goodness for our teaching staff, which
has welcomed back some old friends in John Coughlin and Jamie Davison, and
welcomed in new teachers Michelle Dion, Shannon Hayes, and Doug Kolb. This has
brought our number of teaching assistants up to 18. These dedicated students
understand that true growth as a student comes from their ability to know their
Kenpo well enough to teach it. Let me remind you that all of these people donate
their time to help on a voluntary basis, and fill in for each other so that our
classes aren’t short on teachers. In addition to that, they also maintain their
training requirements, and attend monthly teachers meetings with me. Their
generosity shouldn’t be overlooked, and our school couldn’t make it without
them.THIS MONTH ...
Martial Arts
Picture Day!
Kickphotos USA will be at our
School Tuesday, April 15th for our yearly martial arts picture day.
You can get an order form from me for this event and reserve your time slot for
pictures on the bulletin board. Pictures will be taken in the back room during
classes, and our staff photo is scheduled 1st, at around 6:00. I
kindly ask all of our staff to attend in a clean, fully patched uniform. If you
need patches, see me, as I’ll be picking up a bunch very soon.

The
NECKF Kenpo Camp!
I am very pleased
to announce that Mr. Gary Ellis, a 7th degree Black Belt from
Plymouth, England will be joining the lineup of teachers at this years’ Kenpo
Camp! Mr. Ellis was Mr. Parkers’ England Kenpo representative for the IKKA when
Mr. Parker was alive. Anyone who has met Mr. Ellis will agree that he alone is
worth the price of admission. - JP
