LAST MONTH ...
6 New Black Belt
Candidates!
Congratulations to Peyton Dannewitz, Jack Granfors, Raju Gandhi, Mackenzie
Peacock, Spencer Sottile, and Elisabeth White. They passed their Black Belt
Pre-Test on February 16th and are now beginning their journey towards
becoming Black Belts. This means that these kids will be living, eating, and
breathing Kenpo for the next three months. Please wish them well if you see
them, or better yet, offer to help them out if you see them in the back room
practicing.
Family
/ Buddy Week
Last months
buddy and family week was a huge success. Thanks especially to the Moms and Dads
who came onto the mat to hold bags and train beside your kids. I hope it was as
fun for you as it was for them. I personally love to teach and train with my own
kids, and I couldn’t imagine not having that time with them. We wrapped up the
week and went to see the Manchester Monarchs play and saw probably one of the
best games of the year. We’ll definitely plan another Family and buddy week
soon, and next time perhaps we’ll go to see the New Hampshire Fisher Cats play
some minor league baseball.
Women’s’
Self - Defense Course
We held our women’s self-defense course during family week and had some MVKS
Moms come down for an educational night of self defense strategies and tactics.
Once again the course was well received and opened some peoples eyes about self
defense. Our Moms learned how to hit with their elbows, knees and palm heels,
and also learned some basic strategies for grab defenses and ground fighting.
We finished the night going over the ABC’s of self - defense, something everyone
should know and memorize. It’s a course that I really believe in, and we’ll
offer it again during the next family weekTHIS MONTH ...
2
Man Set seminar
This months rank specific
special is for the Red Brown and Black Belts. I’ll be teaching a seminar on the
2 man set, an old form Mr. Parker mentions in his first book, Secrets of
Chinese Karate. It’s a form that can be practiced by two people, and it’s a
lot of fun! Mark your Calendars for Wednesday, March 19th from 7:00 -
9:00. There is a sign up sheet on the bulletin boardStormy Weather and
Closing Hopefully this is the last month!
Now that it’s Winter I need to remind everyone
that the school will close during stormy weather. If you’re not sure if we are
having class, please wait to call until about 45 minutes before the first class
starts ( usually around 5:15 ). If the machine doesn’t say we’re closed, we
are open. I will also notify the radio station WZID 95.7, and they make their
announcements for closings a couple of times an hour.

Kenpo Views
The Piano Story
A mother tried to encourage
her small girls interest in the piano and so took her to a local concert to see
an excellent pianist. In the entrance foyer the mother met an old friend and the
two stopped to talk. The little girl was keen to see the inside of the hall so
she wandered off, unnoticed. The girls mother became concerned when she entered
the hall and could see no sign of her daughter. Staff were notified and an
announcement was made asking the audience to look out for the little girl. With
the concert due to start, the little girl had still not been found. In
preparation for the pianists entrance, the curtains drew aside, to reveal the
little girl sitting at the grand piano, focused in concentration, quietly
picking out the notes of “ Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star “.
The audiences’ amusement
turned to curiosity when the pianist entered the stage, walked up to the little
girl and said “ keep playing”.
The pianist sat down beside
her, listened for a few seconds, and whispered some more words of encouragement.
He then quietly began to play a bass accompaniment, then a few bars later
reached around her to add more accompaniment. At the end of the impromptu
performance the audience applauded loudly as the pianist took the little girl
back to her seat to be reunited with her mother. The experience was
inspirational for everyone, not the least the little girl.
It takes just a
few moments to make somebody’s day, to help someone with their own personal aims
and dreams - especially someone who looks up to you for encouragement and
support. Back to top
