LAST  MONTH ...

Ornament Swap & Christmas Party!

We started a new tradition last year with our first annual ornament swap and Christmas party. Over 40 people were in attendance as teachers, students, friends and families of the studio gathered at MVKS to share good food and holiday cheer. I, for one, really appreciated having the time to talk to a lot of the parents of our MVKS students. Normally I only have a few minutes in between classes to talk, so it was nice to get to know some of you better. I also appreciate the parents who helped supervise the kids in their games of dodge ball. Thanks to you folks, those kids had a really great time as well. All in all, it was a great time and I’m really glad we started this new tradition!

 Black Belt Step Exam:

Our bi - annual Black Belt testing was held Saturday, December 15th . All Black belts that met the minimum point requirements were in attendance and passed with flying colors! Congratulations to Amanda Mead for earning her 2nd degree Black Belt.  Completing their 1st years worth of training and earning their NECKF Certification were Zach Hagan, Emma Downing, Mike Hayden, and Brendan Poor.

THIS MONTH ...

Spar Wars!

Ever wanted to test your skills and spar with a Black belt? How about another student in the school that’s not in your class? We’re going to provide that opportunity for you on Wednesday, January 16th from 7:00 - 9:00. The whole school is invited to come down for a night of sparring. We’ll structure the evening so that there’ll be some open sparring and some sparring related games and challenges for you. Mark your calendars, this will be a fun night!

Summer Camp Registration Day!

Our summer camps were so popular last year that when we posted a sign up sheet it was filled in one night! This made it unfair for the members who weren’t there that evening. Problem solved, we added another week and the people who missed their first chance were able to sign up for the second week.

In an effort to be as fair as I can, this year we having a registration day, just like they do for youth sports teams. We will be accepting reservations, first come, first served,  for two summer camp sessions on Saturday, Jan 12th at 12:30. The first camp is scheduled for the week of 6/ 23 - 6/ 27. The second week is scheduled for the week of 7/ 28 - 8/ 01. A deposit of $125.00 is due the day of registration.

Stormy weather and closing

Now that it’s Winter I need to remind everyone that the school will close during stormy weather. If you’re not sure if we are having class, please wait to call until about 45 minutes before the first class starts   ( usually around 5:15 ). If the machine doesn’t say we’re closed, we are open. I will also notify the radio station WZID 95.7, and they make their announcements for closings a couple of times an hour.

Kenpo Clues: - Kenpo Questions to Help You Along Your Journey

I

In the technique Scraping Hoof:

For Beginners  Beginners have a tendency to look down at their feet when first learning this technique. Why isn't that a good idea?

For Advanced:  There are two versions of this technique demonstrated in the forms Short 3 and Long 3. Why would you do one instead of the other?
