LAST MONTH...
Break a thon for St Judes
Hospital
We held our annual break a
thon for St Judes Children’s hospital last month and raised over $1000. ! About
15 MVKS students came down and collectively broke 100 boards. We learned about
the history and traditions of board breaking in the martial arts and raised
money for a very good cause. I’ll be sending out the money after final
collections are in by November 3rd and all participants will be
receiving their awards within 4 -6 weeks. Thanks to all who helped make this
event a success, I’m sure St Jude’s appreciates it too.
Halloween
Party!
The now infamous MVKS
Halloween Party was held Saturday, October 27th. This event is one of
the most popular we hold at the studio each year. Students came to the studio
dressed as pirates, princesses, headless horsemen, star wars characters,
cowboys, knights and dragons and many more! They all participated in games such
as: pin the tail on the cat, eat the doughnut from the string with no hands, bob
for apples, a marble race with your nose, , charades, magic tricks and a costume
parade. Winners of the games received tickets to turn in for prizes, and prizes
were awarded for best,, scariest, and funniest costume. The MVKS teachers came
as the Simpsons. It was the best party we’ve had so far, and thanks to all the
moms and dads who brought goodies and helped set up and clean up. We couldn’t
have done it without you!

Ornament Swap
This year we are having an

Students will draw a name out of a hat with another students name on it. Then,
go out and buy a Christmas ornament for that person, and we’ll all open them at
our Christmas party scheduled for Friday, December 21st. This was my
wife’s idea and I think it’s a great one! Thanks, baby!
Family movie night scheduled
Mark your calendars for Friday, November 30th
as we will be holding a family movie night. I’ll pass out a flyer to those who
sign up with some movie choices. We’ll take a vote and all settle in for a nice
family movie.
Stormy weather and closing
Now that it’s November I need to remind everyone that
the school will close during stormy weather. I will usually decide if the roads
are safe by about 1 hour before the first scheduled class that evening, and
then I will change the schools’ answering machine remotely. So, if you’re not
sure if we are having class, please wait to call until about 45 minutes before
the first class starts ( usually around 5:15 ). If the machine doesn’t say we’re
closed, we are open. Many times in the past I have gotten calls from parents
asking me to call them to let them know if we are open. This results in about 20
- 30 calls I would have to make and I’m sorry but I just don’t have the time to
do that. I will also notify the radio station WZID 95.7, and they make their
announcements for closings a couple of times an hour. Hopefully we’ll have
another mild winter!!

The little dog and the leopard story.
(a story about creative thinking, quick thinking, escaping,
averting disaster, bluff and boldness)
A lady takes her little dog
with her on a safari holiday. Wandering too far one day the little dog gets lost
in the bush, and soon encounters a very hungry looking leopard. The little dog
realizes he's in trouble, but, noticing some fresh bones on the ground, he
settles down to chew on them, with his back to the big cat. As the leopard is
about to leap, the little dog smacks his lips and exclaims loudly, "Boy, that
was one delicious leopard. I wonder if there are any more around here."
The leopard stops
mid-stride, and slinks away into the trees.
"Phew," says the leopard,
"that was close - that evil little dog nearly had me."
A monkey nearby sees
everything and thinks he'll win a favor by putting the stupid leopard straight.
The little dog sees the monkey go after the leopard, and guesses he might be up
to no good.
When the leopard hears the
monkey's story he feels angry at being made a fool, and offers the monkey a ride
back to see him exact his revenge.
The little dog sees them
approaching and fears the worse.
Thinking quickly, the little
dog turns his back, pretends not to notice them, and when the pair are within
earshot says aloud, "Now where's that monkey got to? I sent him ages ago to
bring me another leopard..."
