LAST MONTH...
Level
One Stick Seminar
We held a seminar for
escrima sticks covering the level one curriculum in the NECKF on Sept. 26th.
I was really impressed with the growth all of the participants demonstrated in
their abilities. It was obvious to me how much the people who came have been
working on their stick skills. This was our second time covering this material,
and I look forward to certifying everyone who came.

Membership Drive Ends 10/
20 = Cash Rewards$
Every summer some students
will take a small break from their training and return in the fall. Most come
back, some do not. As a result, during this cycle beginning Sept 17th,
all members of MVKS will receive $50. in cash for every new member they bring
into the school. New Tigers will receive a $25. Cash award. We will have a buddy
week event to support this drive from Oct 1st thru Oct 6th.
I’ve always said that the best schools are built from within, and I’d like to
thank everyone in advance for their support of this drive.
Break a thon for St Judes
Hospital Rescheduled
We will be holding our
annual break a thon for St Judes Hospital for Children on Saturday, October 20th
from 10 -12. There will be no regular classes held that day. Our goal will be
to collectively break 100 boards and raise $2000! Won’t you help? We’ll be
passing out the fundraiser forms as soon as I get them.
Halloween Party!
The now infamous MVKS
Halloween Party is scheduled for Saturday, October 27th. This event
is one of the most popular we hold at the studio each year. Students come to the
studio in their best appropriate costumes and participate in games such as: pin
the stem on the pumpkin, eat the doughnut from the string with no hands, bob for
apples, a marble race with your nose, hangman, charades, magic tricks and a
costume parade. Winners of the games receive tickets to turn in for prizes, and
prizes are awarded for best, most original, scariest, and funniest costume. I
wonder what the MVKS Staff will dress up as this year?
If you plan on attending, please
sign up on the bulletin board. Can you help with drinks or snacks? Please help
us to make this party a success and donate your special Halloween treats!
Neckf Kenpo Camp Cancelled
Due to scheduling conflicts, The Fall NECKF
Camp has been cancelled until Spring. We are hoping to have Mr Gary Ellis from
England teach. We’ll keep our fingers crossed. In the meantime, if you’re
looking for some advanced stick or knife training, 7th degree Black
belt Zach Whitson will be teaching a couple of seminars at the Manchester Karate
Studio on October 20th. Call 625 - 5835 to register. If you have a
chance to learn from Mr. Whitson about weapons, do it. He is one of the best in
his field, and his seminars are always fun and exciting

Thought For The Month…
The Very Old Lady Story
A very old lady
looked in the mirror one morning. She had three remaining hairs on her head, and
being a positive soul, she said “ I think I’ll braid my hair today. “ So she
braided her three hairs, and she had a great day.
Some days later, looking in the mirror one morning,
preparing for her day, she saw that she had only two hairs remaining.
“ Hmmm….Two hairs, I fancy a center parting today.“
So she duly parted her two hairs, and as ever, she had
herself a great day.
A week or so later, she noticed that she had just one hair
left on her head. “ One hair, huh…..” she mused,“I know, a pony tail will be
perfect.” And again she had a great day.
The next morning she looked in the mirror. She was
completely bald.
“ Finally bald, huh., “ she said to herself, “ How
wonderful! I won’t have to waste time doing my hair anymore.”
