LAST MONTH...Summer Camp Our second of 2 summer camps was held July 16th thru the 20th. 9 happy campers spent the week with me playing kickball, hiking, bowling, doing arts and crafts, watching movies, playing tug -of - war, competing in an obstacle course, and taking Karate classes. Mother nature was kind enough to cooperate with us and provided a week of perfect weather. These camps are one of the highlights of summer and I’d like to thank the Moms and Dads who’ve supported these camps. I really enjoyed spending this time with your kids and I appreciate your trust in letting me do so.
Judo program is underway! Our bi-monthly Judo classes started last month and went quite well. We covered some basic falls and rolls, gripping techniques and tactics, and we learned a couple of throws. This months’ classes are scheduled for Saturday, August 25th and Friday August 31st. . If you missed the first two don’t worry, as these classes will have a brief review of what we’ve covered so far, and some new instruction on holds and escapes. Join me! It’s a lot of fun, and Judo really compliments our art of Kenpo. Women's Self - Defense Clinic We held another womens’ self defense clinic on Wednesday, July 25th, from 7:00 - 9:00. Emma Downing brought her Mom down with a friend and Alice Kolb took the course again. Jamie Robb once again assisted and we ended up running a successful class. This course is one that I am very proud of and am glad to be able to share it with all of the MVKS women and their friends. One of my goals this year is to be able to bring this course into the local schools and businesses. If you think your company might benefit, see me for more info and I’d be happy to help. Obstacle Course! We tried to have our outside obstacle course last month but the rains came in quickly and we had to move it inside. In spite of that, 11 MVKS students pushed themselves to the limit and ran some very good times for this very challenging course. Best time of the day went to Spencer Sotille, at 1:29, 2nd place went to Zachary Peacock, at 1:32, and 3rd place went to Mackenzie Peacock, at 1:38. At the end of the day, I applauded all of the students for their efforts, and expressed to them the importance of physical fitness, and that they were all winners for getting out there and trying so hard. With childhood obesity reaching almost epidemic proportions in our country, I’m pretty certain that our MVKS kids won’t be part of that statistic.THIS MONTH ...Black Belt Pre - Test! I can’t believe it, but it’s time for Black Belt testing again! All 1st degree brown belts with the required minimum stripes ( 5 ), and points ( 50 ), are encouraged to take part in the Black Belt pre-test on August 18th, from 10:00 - 12:00. Students will be tested on all forms and techniques from White to Green Belt. Students who score an 85% or better will be awarded a Candidate’s Black Belt ( ½ White, ½ Black ) and will begin their monthly Black Belt testing September 8th. I’d like to wish all of the qualifying students the best of luck, and I share with you the excitement and enthusiasm that comes with this very special time!
