Last Month…Black Belt Candidates Move On To 3^rd Exam!

Please join me in congratulating our Black Belt Candidates in passing the first 2 of 3 exams (with flying colors!). As I have told this group, earning a Black Belt is different than earning any other rank in our school, and they have impressed me with their dedication and hard work. Wish them well as they work towards their final exam on May 5^th. If all goes well, we’ll be promoting them to Black Belt next month!

Last month family and friends of our intermediate students joined us for a week of lessons and a movie at weeks’ end. It was pretty neat to see you Moms and Dads out on the mat learning alongside your kids. One thing I always like to see is the smiles on their faces when you’re sharing this activity with them. I really pride myself on having a family oriented school, and events like this further this ideal. Most of you came away with an appreciation of what your kids could do. Some even decided to take the next step and join! I look forward to having more classes like this in the summer on the side lawn.

Thank you all for taking the time vote for a new schedule. We collected votes until March 22^nd, and the voting was close. Surprisingly, we are going to keep the same schedule. Votes received were: 22 for choice one, 18 for choice 2, and 15 for choice 3. As a result, those of you who requested longer classes will see a change in the class format, with more time dedicated to required material, and less time on stretching and exercise.

Kickphotos USA will be at our Studio on April 17^th from 6:30 to 9:00. This company has been visiting our Studio now for the past 3 years and do an exceptional job at martial arts photography. You can check out their work on their website www.kickphotosusa.com . There is a sign up sheet on the bulletin board to reserve a time slot for your photo shoot. Reminder: all MVKS Staff are scheduled for our staff photo at 6:30. Please wear your teachers’ uniforms for this photo. I will hopefully have more patches in before this event.

Red Belt and above, this months’ special is for you! Join me on Saturday, April 21^st for a 2 hour seminar on the Kenpo Staff Set. You will need a 6’ bo staff for this seminar, and I will order it for you if you sign up by April 14^th. The Kenpo Staff set was created by one of Mr. Parkers’ Black Belts, Chuck Sullivan, as his Black Belt thesis form, and is recognized as part of the curriculum in the NECKF. We will hold this event on the side lawn of the McCollum Building ( weather permitting ), or at the Mont Vernon Village School Gym. After this exciting form is learned by the participants, we will explore different applications of some of the movements within it. Please join me! Sign up sheet is on the bulletin board.
