Congratulations to Black Belt Candidates Emma Downing, Zach Hagan, Mike Hayden, Brendan Poor and Frederick van Tassell. They passed their 2nd exam and are working together for their last exam October 28th. Please encourage them and wish them well on their next test. They have a tough road ahead of them but if they team up and work hard, these fine young students will be earning their Black Belts on November 10th.
Thanks to everyone who helped support our Buddy Week promotion last cycle. We had 12 friends of the studio come in for some exciting classes. Now when these people think about karate training, the classes we shared with them will be the standard for which they will judge any future karate classes. Should any of these friends join, their friends in MVKS will be entered into our ongoing referral contest, and will receive a $10 gift certificate to the Toadstool Bookshop in Milford. Remember, our referral contest ends on December 2nd, and you might want to tell your friends about our new student special. All new students who register for classes this month will get $50 off the cost of a 6 month program and a free uniform!
Over 70 people attended the NECKF Fall camp, and in my opinion, it was one of the best camps ever! Instructors Lee Wedlake, Steve White, Zach Whitson, and Dian Tanaka-Whitson taught seminars on safety while training, creating your own technique or form, opposites and reverses in the forms, close range stick fighting, countering Kenpo techniques, and integrating techniques into sparring. There was a wealth of knowledge shared, and we’ll be adding some new drills to our curriculum as a result. If you missed the Camp, there will be a DVD available soon through the NECKF website.
Join us Saturday, October 28th, for our annual MVKS Costume Party! Like last year, there’ll be lots of fun, games, prizes, and candy from 10:00 - 12:00. There will be a sign up sheet if you plan on attending, and a volunteer sheet if you can bring some treats or help with setup or cleanup. I wonder what the teachers are going to dress up as this year??
Well be having another Buddy Week from October 30th through November 4th. Bring your friends, get them to join, and you could win 50, 100, or 250 dollars!! Wouldn’t that be nice for the holidays?!

Some Quotes About Character
"Character is like a tree and reputation like it's shadow. The shadow is what we
think of it, the tree is the real thing."
- Abraham Lincoln
"Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experinece of
trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, vision cleared, ambition
inspired and success achieved."
- Helen Keller
