On Wednesday, July 26, 8 MVKS moms and their friends participated in our annual free self defense clinic. Many moms came away with a newfound appreciation for what their kids learn here at MVKS. This year we did something completely different from previous self defense clinics and the results were dramatic. We took a less is more approach and focused more on the concepts behind the moves rather than doing more moves. This enabled our participants to defend themselves in ways that felt natural to them, with a minimal amount of guidance and instruction. I was so encouraged by the positive feedback from everyone that we’ll be offering another clinic on Wednesday, Sept 20th. Look for the sign up sheet, and yes, you may take this course again if you like.
We are closed from August 5th thru the 12th. Classes resume 8/ 14.
Weather
permitting, we will have an outside obstacle course day on the 19th,
from 10-12. No uniforms needed. Come on down and try this exciting, challenging
course! We will also try to have an open workout on the lawn the following
Saturday from 10:00 to 12:00. All ages, ranks, and family members are welcome to
attend. Bring your bug spray!
All 1st degree Brown Belts with the minimum stripes (5), and points ( 50 ) are eligible and encouraged to come. Material tested will be all Forms and Self Defense techniques White Belt thru Green Belt. Students who score an 85% or better will earn a Black Belt Candidate’s Belt ( half white/ half black ) and will begin testing for their Black Belt monthly starting September 2nd.! I hope all of you have done your best to prepare and I wish you the best of luck during this very exciting time!
We will schedule some more outside classes, and we’ll be having a different kind of buddy week, where students can earn big prizes! We also will be having another free women's self defense clinic on September 20th from 7 - 9. Look for the sign up sheet and join us!

Poetry in Motion
by Gary Ellis
The man in black with the silver hair, Weaves mystic patterns in the air
Moving fast, moving slow, a powerful aura is aglow
Dragon and Tiger move as one, On the Universal Pattern, motion
A deadly art, is all aflame, This “Dance of Death “ is no game
The Law of the Fist and the Empty Hand, He’s wedded to, in timeless sands
Forever performing his mystic dance, forever in his mystic trance
The man in black with the silver hair, The leader of leaders, none to compare
His name is Ed Parker, Master and Friend, His spirit lives on, and will never
end
