Congratulations to Scott Dannewitz, Zachary Peacock and Nathan Sanford for passing their first 2 of 3 Black Belt exams on March 4th and April 1st. Wish them well as they prepare for their next ( and last! ) exam on May 6th and , should they pass, we'll be awarding them their Black Belts on Friday, May 12th. Good Luck, guys!!!
On Thursday, March 16th, Mr. Chris Veziris, a 6th degree Black belt in Kodokan Judo, taught 10 lucky MVKS students the throwing technique Uki Goshi, or "floating hip throw" , along with some variations of this technique. Mr. Veziris was joined by 2nd degree Black belt phenomenon Tom Moreau, 2005 NH State champ. Together they provided an excellent demonstration of this fascinating art at the beginning of the seminar. That alone was worth the price of admission. I'd like to thank everyone who supported this event. Having guest instructors like Mr. Veziris come to our Studio helps to broaden our horizons, complement our Kenpo knowledge, and appreciate what other martial arts have to offer. Thanks again, Mr Veziris, we look forward to having you back again!
Kickphotos USA will be at our Studio on Tuesday, April 18th from 6:30
- 9:00. This event was originally scheduled for April 22nd but was
rescheduled due to April vacation. Reserve your time slot on the bulletin board.
Visit

When this current cycle ends, we will step outside the curriculum for a week of special classes. The first part of the week will focus on family, with parents and siblings encouraged to come join the fun. The second part of the week will feature a Spar Wars event, with a night dedicated strictly to sparring, as well as some classes on Judo and Escrima sticks. The fun begins April 17th and goes until Friday, April 21st.
Our school will be closed from Saturday, April 22nd until Saturday, April 29th. This is most of the region's school vacation week and I thought it would be a good opportunity to give MVKS a facelift. Students can expect to come back from vacation to a freshly painted school!
Join us Saturday, May 20th as Mont Vernon celebrates Spring with it's annual Spring Gala. As always, MVKS will be marching in the parade, and instead of a Karate demo we will be conducting a break-a-thon fundraiser to support the McCollom field restoration project. The town's citizens need to raise $20,000 to create their field of dreams, and we're going to do our best to help this cause!! Our goal is $2000. There will be boards available for the public to break for one dollar, as well as photos of the break to buy to commemorate the event. We will also collect throughout the day for " super breaks ". Look for the insert in this newsletter for more info on this event and thank you in advance for your support.
With warm weather finally here, we will be ordering t-shirts for
the upcoming season. This years colors are going to be navy blue with red. If
you'd like one, please fill out the order form on the bulletin board and we'll
try to get them in by the end of May.

Developing
a Healthy Habit"You are what you repeatedly do " - That's what a famous philosopher once said, and I couldn't agree more. The key to success in the martial arts lies in consistency.
The first step is to establish a routine. Begin by choosing at least two days a week you can attend classes, and stick to them. This may mean that occasionally you have to give up doing something else. "Think about the dollar later as opposed to the dime now." Once a routine is established, practice becomes less of a chore and more of a part of your life. Practice becomes something that you look forward to, and skill is the reward for your hard work. When you get to the point that you've missed a practice, and you really don't feel right about it, then you know the transformation has begun. You are becoming a martial artist!
Suddenly this person who had a curious interest in the martial arts has become a regular student dedicated to training. This same person now looks forward to new challenges and has the confidence to take them on. They've also made friendships along the way, healthy friendships, to help fight negative peer pressure. Instilling a disciplined, structured routine of martial arts practice in ourselves or our children creates a healthy habit that can last for a lifetime. Until next month...JP
