The Karate Studio will be collecting socks , hats, gloves and mittens for the area's needy until Saturday, December 17th.
It's unfortunate, but some families have to choose between what they need to survive ( Heat, food, lights ) and what they need to stay warm.
Being a Dad, I know how many pairs of gloves and such can be lost during one winter season. I also know that having an extra pair of gloves , mittens, or socks could be just one less thing someone in need has to worry about during the holiday season .
Look for the giant stocking in the lobby and thanks in advance for your help!
Our School will be closed for the Christmas and New Year Holidays from Thursday, December 22nd until January 1st, 2006. Classes will resume January 2nd with week 1.
With stormy weather here
(already!?), please call the Studio one hour before your scheduled class if
you're not sure if classes will be held. If the answering machine doesn't say
we're closed, we're open! Announcements will also be made on 95.7 WZID.
Mr. White and Dr. Len Brassard taught a couple of insightful seminars last month in Fitchburg.
Dr Brassard dove into the forms and showed us some examples of opposites and reverses in the Kenpo forms and helped us gain some appreciation for the depth of knowledge Mr. Parker put into them.
Mr. White followed with a seminar on technique structure and explained how Mr. Parker took a particular piece of motion and applied it's use to the various positions encountered during a fight.
It was a quiet ride home...
The next Black Belt Step exam is scheduled for Saturday, Dec 10th, from 12:30 - 2:00. All Black Belts that have met their minimum point requirements are expected to come. Check your cards, and schedule a private or two to qualify if you need to. Material covered with be the last completed set of techniques, as well as some random selections by me. Good Luck!
When week 5 ends on December 10th, we will only have a week and a half until we close for Christmas vacation. I thought it would be a great way to end the year by celebrating what MVKS is all about - family! During the week of December 12th thru the 17th MVKS members can bring any family member to class.
We'll turn the back room into a movie theater on Friday the 16th for the Christmas movie " Elf ", starring Will Ferrell.
These won't be just any regular classes, either. Since we won't be teaching required material until the new year, these classes until the new year will be very random. One night may hold advanced Kenpo training methods, while another may introduce you to Judo, stick fighting or even the Russian art Systema. One thing they'll all have is FUN!!! .
Recently there has been a problem regarding tardiness at the Studio and it needs to be addressed. I have seen time and again a class start at 6:30 or 6:00 and almost double in size ten minutes later! This is quite disruptive to the class in progress, and since classes are geared to accomplish specific goals in a 45 minute period, often times this disruption causes the class to run late, which makes every class thereafter late as well. It is a simple problem with a simple solution, and that is, to arrive for class 10 minutes early. This allows a student time to get their cards, stretch, and be ready for class to start. Let's all do our part to start on time!!!
Know anyone who would love the gift of Karate?. MVKS has donated a six month program with uniform for the WZID Christmas for kids auction. This offer is for new students only and can usually be bought for an unbelievably low price! Visit the WZID website for more info.

- in my opinion... |
ANYWAY
a poem by Mother Theresa
People are unreasonable, illogical, and self - centered
Love them anyway
If you do good, people may accuse you of selfish motives
Do good anyway
If you are successful, you may win false friends and true enemies
Succeed anyway
The good you do may be forgotten tomorrow
Do good anyway
Honesty and openness make you vulnerable
Be honest and open anyway
What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight
Build anyway
People who really want help may attack you if you help them
Help them anyway
Give the world the best you have and you may get hurt
Give the world your best any way
Hope you liked that - MERRY CHRISTMAS, EVERYBODY!!!-JP

Mr. Lee Wedlake, an eighth degree Black Belt and my Instructors' instructor, will be teaching a seminar for the NECKF Swat members. Mr. White, Mr. Brassard, and others will be teaching during this all day event. Best of all, this event is being offered at NO COST for all of the NECKF SWAT team members as a show of appreciation for all of their dedication and generosity they give to their Studios. The date hasn't been confirmed but it will be by next months' newsletter. Most likely it will be on a Saturday at Mr. White's Studio in Manchester or Dr. Brassards Studio in Fitchburg.

It's hard to believe, but it's been fifteen years this month since Ed Parker's passing.

Another year older and wiser....
(and a belated September birthday wish)

Well, here we are at the end of 2005. How did you do on your goals? Did you accomplish what you'd hoped? Did you come close? Do you remember setting them( oops) ? Take a minute and go over your goal card from last year. Regardless of how you did, use this as an opportunity to reflect on your efforts, and to improve on them next year!
"Everybody
today seems to be in such a terrible rush, anxious for greater developments and
greater riches and so on, so that children have very little time for their
parents. Parents have little time for each other, and in the home begins the
disruption of peace in the world."
- Mother Theresa
