I am very pleased to announce that our first Summer Camp scheduled for the end of June is full! Space was limited, and I am very excited to share this week of fun with the ten people who enrolled. If you are still interested in participating, a waiting list has been put on the bulletin board in the event of a cancellation. If there is enough interest, a second week may be added. Anyone enrolled in the camp has until May 1st to cancel, and I kindly ask that all deposits must be received by March 1st.

Do you have a knack with a needle? A specialty with a sewing machine? If you do, then MVKS needs you! Our school desperately needs someone who can sew our Staff's custom uniforms, and I am sure that some of our student body would have a fully patched uniform if only they could, or knew, someone who could sew! This could be a great way to earn a little extra income as well, as I currently pay almost $30. for the uniforms I wear. Please see me if you are interested, and I'll make a little flyer for your services, and, thank you in advance!
On Friday, Feb. 25Th, the back room at MVKS was again transformed into a movie theater as over 40 MVKS members and their families joined us for the the showing of the movie " Sidekicks" starring Chuck Norris. This has turned into very popular event at the studio. Thanks to all the volunteers who helped make this event great! If you really loved the movie, there is a link on our website to buy it.
Congratulations to Jim Rivard, Neal Berkebile, Jamie Davison, Sam Quimby and Sam Taylor!! They are MVKS' newest Black Belt Candidates and have begun the three month testing process to become Black Belts! On Feb 12th they passed their pre-test and on Feb 26th they passed their first of three monthly exams to earn their Black Belts. Like me, I am sure you have seen them working out quite a bit in the back room. Wish them well, and better yet, offer your help as they go through this wonderful process of earning their Black Belts!!
Do you like to draw? MVKS is having an art contest this month!! Students of all ages are encouraged to draw a picture entitled " What I like best about Karate at MVKS " A winner from each class group will be chosen with a prize for each winner. In addition, all drawings will go onto our website in the kid's art gallery, and will be chosen monthly for our newsletter.
Join us Saturday, March 26th for an afternoon of board breaking and fund raising as we hold our annual fundraiser for St Judes Hospital for Children. Our goal is to collectively break 250 boards and to raise $2500.! Sponsor sheets will be passed out this week. See me for more info.

- in my opinion... |
I am very please to see that our new system of passing out gold stripes to
students who had perfect attendance (2 classes per week for one cycle) is now
turning into passing out red stars for students who had perfect attendance for
their entire rank. It used to be that you didn't see many red stars around the
studio, but I am very glad to see that this is changing. Congratulations to Cade
and Wyatt Smith, Tom King, Erin, Austin, and Ryan Quinlan for earning their red
stars this last promotion week! I have never passed out so many at once before!!
When I pass out the stars, I always tell the people who earned them that I know that in order to have gotten these stars, they must have at least one time or another tell a friend "Sorry, I can't, I've got Karate class tonight". I, for one, understand the sacrifice it sometimes takes to achieve a belt or a new skill in Karate, and I really appreciate the effort these students showed to earn their belts. It's no surprise that they did very well on their material due to their attendance. There are many valuable lessons that Karate training can give us, and to be at the Karate Studio on a consistent basis only sets these people up to learn them better. This is also a testament to their parents, who also sacrifice their time by bringing theses kids to the school week in and week out. Your commitment to your kids is inspiring.
