- past and upcoming events |
My Instructor, Mr. Steven White from Manchester, NH, came to our Studio on Thursday, Nov 18th and conducted a seminar on advanced Kenpo knife defense and training drills. He imparted to all the importance of recognizing how dangerous a knife can be and that avoidance should be the first rule when encountering this deadly weapon. He then shared with us a flow drill that showed how all of the Kenpo knife techniques can be integrated to successfully defend a knife attack. It was simply the best seminar Mr. White has done here at our Studio, and I'm sure all who attended appreciated the wealth of knowledge Mr. White brings with him when he visits. We look forward to having him back in the Spring!

This Month |
The
Karate Studio will be collecting hats, gloves, mittens and socks for the
region's homeless and needy until Saturday, Dec 18th.
It's unfortunate, but some families have to make a choice between what they need to survive ( rent, food, light, etc. ), and what they need to stay warm.
Being a Dad, I know how many pairs of gloves and such a kid can lose during one winter season. I also know that having an extra pair of gloves, socks or mittens might just be one less thing someone in need has to worry about. Thanks in advance for your help!
Congratulations to Madeleine Landrum, Jamie Robb, and Irene Robb for passing their 3rd of 3 Black Belt tests! These students have been testing monthly since September and were awarded their new Belts on Friday, November 12th.
As is the custom, family and friends were there to celebrate the occasion and learn what it means to be a Black Belt in the NECKF. A demonstration of their favorite techniques was followed by a synchronized performance of Short Form 3. New Black Belts were "attacked " by old Black Belts in a show of spontaneous ability. Next the new Black Belts signed and dated their candidate belts, soon to be worn by a new group of candidates this coming February. Another tradition is a booster kick, delivered to usher the new Black Belts into this prestigious rank, and fellow MVKS Black belts were on hand to welcome them into the Black Belt class, with a "chain of command" backknuckle passed down to show strength and unity.
Good food and conversation finished the night, as members and friends shared stories and laughs.
Getting my Black Belt was a very significant part of my life, and I am very honored to be able to give that experience to these fine students. Congratulations !!
Mr. Lee Wedlake, an 8th degree Black Belt and Mr. White's instructor, will be conducting a couple of seminars at the Manchester Karate Studio on Saturday, Dec 11th. Interested students should visit the NECKF website, neckf.com, for more info.

- in my opinion... |
I found this poem in the book: I'd Rather Teach Peace , by Colman McCarthy. It was written by Mother Theresa. Hope you like it.
ANYWAY
People are unreasonable,
illogical, and self - centered
Love them anyway
If you do good, people may accuse you of selfish motives
Do good anyway
If you are successful, you may win false friends and true enemies
Succeed anyway
The good you do may be forgotten tomorrow
Do good anyway
Honesty and openness make you vulnerable
Be honest and open anyway
What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight
Build anyway
People who really want help may attack you if you help them
Help them anyway
Give the world the best you have and you may get hurt
Give the world your best anyway
Merry Christmas, Everybody! Until next year ... JP

Ever wish you could test your skills against your favorite teacher? How about a friend in the Studio who's not in your class? Join us Wednesday, January 26th for a night of sparring and fun as the Studio will have a sparring class open to all ranks. All participants must have a mouthpiece and preferably their own sparring gear. The class will run from 6:30 until 8:00 and will include some drills and strategies to improve your sparring regimen. Hope to see you there!
