I would like to thank all of the MVKS parents and students who helped with the parade march and Karate demonstration at the Mont Vernon Spring Gala. Together we all represented the Karate Studio the way it deserved to be - as a nice family school - and the townspeople of Mont Vernon showed their support once again through their applause and encouragement for our young students. For many it was their 1st time marching in a parade and I never get tired of sharing that experience with a young person.
The Karate demonstration was fun, too as MVKS students performed their basics, forms, and techniques to music. I had told the team that the people watching the demo would remember their spirit and energy long after the moves they performed. That couldn't have been more true because the people watching the demo couldn't help but smile as they watched these fine students perform. In fact, I'm smiling now as I write this. For these reasons I look forward to the Spring Gala every year!
Thanks again, everyone who made this day a success, and thanks especially to the " demo team " - Neil Berkebile, Sabine DeShazo, Robert Hayden, Eric Kolb, Tom King, Mackenzie Peacock, Zachary Peacock, Frederick van Tassell, and Elisabeth White, for your time , effort and dedication. Great job!!!!
The bi - annual step exam for Black Belts will be Saturday, June 5th at 12:30pm. All Black Belts are required to take this exam except for our newly promoted Black Belts from May 7th. Black Belts who meet the point requirements will move on to the next "step ". Good luck!!!
I am very
honored and excited to announce that Guru Al McLuckie will be visiting our
Studio for a seminar on escrima sticks. Mark your calendars for June 12th at
12:30. Anyone who knows about Mr. McLuckie knows that he is a Master Instructor
and is considered by many to be the best in his field. Look for the sign-up
sheet and reserve your place today!

KickPhotos USA will be visiting our Studio on Saturday, June 19th for pictures. I have seen the work they do at Manchester Karate Studio and it is very good. Think of it as school pictures with a Karate uniform on. There are many different packages available and I have plenty of order forms if you need one. Students may pose by themselves, with fellow students or their favorite instructor.

- in my opinion... |
"Karate begins and ends with respect." That has been a topic of discussion at the school for the past couple weeks, and it got me to thinking about just how important it really is in a Martial Arts school. Students are taught to respect one another on many levels. A simple bow to another student that means that you'll put your partner's safety above everything else, as well as try your best to elevate one another's efforts. This creates an atmosphere of trust and teamwork.
A simple bow as you enter the training area represents the respect for the Studio, and all its traditions and teachings. This creates a feeling of responsibility to the Student as they should try to obtain or maintain the standards , both mental and physical, of all who have or had trained there.
A simple bow to your Instructor represents respect to the knowledge that they can give you, with the understanding that the wisdom that they share will come to you in time, as well. Knowledge can come in a day, but wisdom comes only with experience.
I recently read a book that had a chapter titled " Look for results, not salutes". This reinforces my belief that all the gestures of respect really mean nothing if they were being done by people because they had to, instead of want to. I also believe that a person may start out feeling that they have to, and in time realize the importance of respect and want to. " You are what you repeatedly do", and, if you are practicing respect to one another, then after a while you are bound to turn into a respectful person.
And for that I give a salutary " bow " to all the MVKS parents . For whom pay me the highest compliment, they let me teach their children. Thank you for your trust and commitment. Happy 13th Anniversary MVKS!!- JP

" My oldest son and I were looking for something that we could do as an extracurricular activity. He liked the sport and challenge as did I. I also learned the discipline and values were and are an added benefit. My second and third son saw the fun and joined. My then 4 year old couldn't wait to join Tiny Tigers, when she turned five. Since we were all coming, it was only natural for my husband to sign up. We find Mr. Peacock to be a patient, kind, thorough and challenging teacher."
