- in my opinion... |
When a new young person joins our School, I encourage the parents to attend the introductory lesson so that they too can understand our Schools' philosophies and reinforce them at home. Consistency and repetition are the keys for success, especially for young people
When parents are present and hear the lessons we are teaching, and then reinforce them at home, success isn't very far behind. Again, consistency and repetition are the keys, and we hold them. This is the common thread that all of our successful students share.
At the other end of the spectrum is when parents feel the need to teach from the sidelines. Notice that I said teach, and not coach. A coach is someone whose words of encouragement are used to improve someone's behavior, focus, or performance. These words of encouragement are appreciated and can really make a difference.
A parent who teaches from the sidelines, although well-intentioned, can actually hinder progress. Corrections on technique from someone other than the students' instructor may actually undermine the Students' confidence in their Instructor, as well as put too much focus on what is wrong with their performance, instead of focusing on all that was right that got them there in the first place
Our staff takes monthly lessons on teaching techniques and motivational strategies to bring out the best in their students. They are refining these things every time they are on the floor. They will be happy to listen to your thoughts and advice as to the best way for your child to learn. Just please do so after, not during, class. In short "Let the teachers teach ." Until next month.............JP

| - Kenpo questions to help you along... |

In the Orange Belt technique Lone Kimono, you are doing the same motion with your right hand that you do in another technique against a punch. Which one?

" It's all about family value. At MVKS, you not only get a local school with reasonable rates and fabulous family discounts, there's so much more....We were looking for a local school to teach our son Kenpo Karate. As parents, we recognized that Karate would help us teach our son many valuable life lessons such as respect, honor and self - esteem, only to mention a few. We specifically desired Kenpo because of the self- defense aspect of the art. When we looked at MVKS, we were truly blown away! Jim Peacock, the Director of MVKS, teaches his students so much more than we ever expected. Children learn the value of goal setting and achievement. They learn to become self - aware while building on personal self-confidence that a child might not otherwise have the opportunity to develop. Within a year of enrolling our son at the school, we had our entire family signed up. After four years, we are still impressed. This is the best investment we have ever made."
- Sincerely, Irene Robb
Honored student and student parent of MVKS

With winter weather just around the corner, if you have a question as to whether the School is open during a storm, Please call the Studio 1 hour before classes start and listen for a message. If the message hasn't changed, classes are being held that evening. You may also listen to WZID ( 95.7 fm ) as they will also list us as being closed. Unless it's a really serious storm, I usually wait to see what the driving conditions are 1 hour before classes start.
