Elijah Gorton was our Buddy Week winner for the contest held last cycle. Elijah won $75 for getting John, Gregory, and Alison Ives to join MVKS. Thanks, Elijah!!

On Tuesday, Oct. 28, and Thursday, Oct. 30th,
MVKS Beginner and Intermediate students were replaced by
cheerleaders, Power Rangers, and other Halloween characters for
classes. Austin Powers was the Head Instructor as MVKS was filled
with fog ( and fun!). A special thanks to Mrs. Peacock for
making the piñatas!
I am very pleased to announce that www.mvkarate.com has a new webmaster! Gabi van Tassell has taken over the duties of the website and many new and improved changes are on the way! Students will be able to pay tuition online, as well as place Century Catalog orders. The site has been streamlined quite a bit and I'm sure you'll find it much easier to navigate. Other changes include a password protected area for MVKS students only that will include more detailed information on the material that is taught at our School. It is my hope that the new site will help students with their training while away from the Studio. The renovations have already begun and should be completed by December. Please visit!
A new area of the website is to contain testimonials from parents and students. Please help us make this a success by writing a short paragraph as to why you chose MVKS, and the benefits you have gained by your membership. These testimonials will also be printed in future newsletters.
Junior students will be asked on a monthly basis to fill out a questionnaire stating how they have used what they have learned in class to make their lives better outside the Studio. The best student responses will be featured on the site!! How cool is that??!!

- in my opinion... |
The holiday season is upon us again, can you believe it? This is the time of year when we are supposed to give thanks and appreciate all that is good in our lives. Although we should be thankful all year, the holidays bring these thoughts to the forefront.
Please take a minute this year to think about all that is good in your life. Your health, your families, your friends. These are the things that matter the most. Think about how your life would be if you couldn't count on them. All the toys and wealth in the world would mean nothing if not for the things in our lives that make us " emotionally rich ".
The holidays can be hectic, and even stressful and depressing , when we get too wrapped up in all the superficial things that go along with this season.
Think for a moment, can you remember everything you got for Christmas 3 years ago?
Probably not, but you always remember the loving moments and feelings you share with your family and friends. That is what I look forward to the most.
Remember, the perfect gift is really the love and affection we share with one another. That is a gift that never ends up in the closet after a few months. Until next month..........JP

" To me, raising kids is just about the most exciting, maddening, rewarding, exhausting, puzzling, and satisfying occupation there is. There's no foolproof system, because all kids are different. But there's no area in the world where loving common sense and a touch of humor pay such big dividends"

| - Kenpo questions to help you along... |

In the Yellow Belt technique Intellectual Departure, after you deliver a back kick to the groin, you plant your foot down, and then rotate into a right neutral bow before you do a right drag-step side kick to the knee. Why is it important to do this?
For more questions and tips for this technique, visit the Technique of the month.

On Saturday, Dec 6th, let us watch the kids for you while you shop! We'll provide a class, some fun activities, and a movie and snacks while you shop, or do whatever you like between the hours of 1:00 - 5:00 p.m.
Before you go, take a moment to browse through the Century Christmas Catalog and place an order for your little ones (or yourself). Orders will be placed that day to ensure on - time delivery for the holidays.
Cost will be $30. per child . Sign up sheet for this event will be on the bulletin board.
On Saturday, Nov. 1st, 8 MVKS students traveled to Fitchburg, Ma. for a day of Kenpo instruction from some of New Englands' top Kenpo instructors. Instructors for this event were: Mr. Steven White, 6th degree Black Belt ( my teacher ), Dr Len Brassard, 5th degree Black Belt, Mr. William Gaudette, 4th degree Black Belt, and yours truly.
Dr Len Brassard provided yet another insightful seminar on forms, showing common footwork patterns that the forms share
Mr. Gaudette taught his 1st camp and went over the similarities and differences of a select group of techniques that used the same footwork pattern.
Mr. White explored the often forgotten attackers role in all of these techniques by teaching the variables an attacker might present to you in a self - defense situation.
I put the techniques into a mass attack sequence to show how a technique "shortcut" can be used when dealing with more than one attacker, using the techniques taught by Mr. Gaudette.
In an informal poll, this was said to be one the best camps so far. It is always an honor and a privilege for me to offer this kind of instruction to my Students. You may or may not realize just how fortunate we are to have a teacher like Mr. White as our Regional Director. He is the one responsible for all of the information and inspiration (hopefully! ) we receive!
Thanks to all who supported this event. By choosing to participate, you really are the " best and the brightest! " in our School!
