On Saturday, May 31, Mr. Chris Veziris, 6th degree Black Belt in
Kodokan Judo, visited MVKS and taught 16 students three types of
Judo throws.
These hardy students learned "hands on" the art of the "gentle way" and fortified their Kenpo knowledge in an up and close and personal way!
As always, Mr. Veziris provided an entertaining and informative seminar about this art of grappling and we look forward to his next visit in the fall!
On Friday, June 20, the first annual MVKS teacher appreciation night will be held. This will be a great opportunity to get to know the awesome staff of assistant instructors at MVKS.
As you may or may not know, it takes aspecial dedicated person to achieve the level of proficiency that our teaching staff has. Not only are they committed to their training, they are committed to helping others, too! They understand that to truley excel in their Kenpo training, they have to know their material good enough to teach others! This truely takes a special person. This truly should be recognized as well. So, join me in saying "THANKS!" to this fine group of people.
Bring a baked good (cookies, etc.) if you like, as good teachers cannot live on Kenpo alone!

Thank You
On June 3rd, MVKS celebrated it's 12th anniversary! Thanks to people like you, MVKS has grown from a small after school program at the Village School, to a full time operation that boasts 90 active students and a terrific reputation as a family school, dedicated to making a difference in the Mont Vernon and surrounding communities. If the student reflects the instructors, then we have a fine lookin' bunch of them here!! As guest instructors always say: "You have a good group of people here." I can't help but think "If you only knew!' Thanks to all for a great 12 years. -JP

" If you had a friend who talked to you like you sometimes talk to yourself, would you continue to hang around that person?"
- Rob Bremer
"He who hesitates, meditates in a horizontal position."
| - Kenpo questions to help you along... |

In the technique Pincher, what recreational activity best describes the motion you use when applying the armbar?
For more questions like this, visit the Techniques of the Month!
TIP: At the beginning of the next cycle, write down three things you would like to do better by week 5. Put those three ideas on index cards and put them all around the house to remind you to stay focused on your goal. At the end of every week, evaluate your progress and adjust as necessary. Before you know it, week 5 is here and you did everything you wanted! Remember, failing to plan is like planning to fail.

Gear up for Spar Wars!
On Wednesday, July 16, from 6:30-8:30 p.m., a challenge has been issued by all of our Red to Black Belt students to join them in the ring for some competition and fun!
Spar Wars I is here! If you've ever wanted to test your skills against some of MVKS's finest, then here's your chance! All students are welcome. All you need is a full set of sparring gear and a willingness to learn and have fun!
We'll do some sparring drills and some surprises will be in store (imagine sparring your favorite teacher with one hand behind their back)! Mark your calendar! They'll be waiting...
Now that Mother Nature has finally let go of her winter ways, it looks like warmer weather is here to stay nad students have shed their gi tops for T-shirts. In order to maintain a "uniform" presence on the training floor, we ask that all students wear an MVKS T-shirt to class. Don't have one? An order sheet is on the display case out back and orders are made every couple of weeks.
