Read what parents and students have to say about Mont Vernon Karate Studio!

I would like to express my sincere appreciation to Mr. Peacock and his entire staff at MVKS for the excellent job they do of teaching the art of kenpo karate. It has truly been an awe inspiring experience for me to watch time and time again as Mr. Peacock displays his gift of motivating and inspiring the children and young adults who come into his classroom. It is obvious to me that Jim has a natural teaching ability, in addition to being a master of his craft. MVKS is truly an asset to the entire community in which it serves. I would not hesitate to recommend this school to any person wishing to learn the art of kenpo karate. There are many schools in the area which offer classes in various disciplines, but I am sure you would be hard pressed to find a school with as fine a director as Mr. Jim Peacock.

My son Evan has been enrolled in the Mont Vernon Karate Studio for just over a year now. He has recently been promoted to a purple belt - a very proud moment for him and his family. I believe Evan has gained a great deal of self-confidence, commitment, and skill over the past year and we have to thank Mr. Peacock and his dedicated staff much for this success. Jim has a very special way of teaching karate to kids on their level. He and his staff teach with a healthy balance of fun, hard work, and moral messages showing the kids that they can learn karate in a friendly and trusting environment. Jim and the staff are always happy to provide extra help with a technique or form and do so with support and encouragement. Evan is enjoying his learning experience at MVKS and is still eager to come to class each week. Mr. Peacock keeps the program fresh and exciting for the kids, coming up with new ideas to keep their interest. Movie night and Halloween karate class are a few examples of how he makes karate a family experience. Thanks to Jim and his staff for everything!

My oldest son and I were looking for something we could do together as an extra curricular activity. He liked the sport and challenge as did I. I also founde the discipline and values learned were and are an added plus. My second and third son saw the fun and joined. My then 4 year old couldn't wait to join Tiny Tigers, when she turned 5. Since we were all coming, it was a natural for my husband to sign up. We find Mr. Peacock to be a patient, kind and thorough and challenging teacher.

I would like to thank MVKS. My daughter started her classes at a time there was a log of turmoil in her life, and MVKS has grounded her. I am very pleased for the positive male role models that have entered her life. Her teachers are wonderful, and she trusts them and loves going to classes. Thank you very much.

Both my 6 year-old son and my husband attend classes at MVKS and are thoroughly enjoying it. Mr. Peacock is a kind, caring and understanding teacher, especially where the children are concerned. He exercises their minds as well as their bodies, promoting confidence, self-discipline and a healthy appreciation for accomplishments won through hard work and practice. Many thanks, Mr. Peacock, I'm glad that we found you!!!

I initially chose MVKS as my Karate Studio because I had a friend who spoke highly of it. Now that I have been attending for a few-odd years, I can safely say that I do not regret my decision whatsoever. The material, rich enough in it's own right, is presented in a logical and well defined syllabus. The atmosphere that is generated by the director, and the attitude of the students, make this studio both a pleasant and stimulating experience.

Mr. Peacock, As a manager and a coach of youth sports, I have gained a tremendous amount under your tutelage.  Many of the lessons that you tell us seem to find their way into my everyday life.  Many times, I find myself having to motivate others (both at work and on the sports field).  I enjoy telling them of Funakoshi and how for months, he walked to his masters house and performed his form over and over again and yet the master never taught him anything new.  Finally, Funakoshi realized that just showing up and running the form was not enough, he had to demonstrate his commitment to the art.  As he practiced and practiced, he finally earned the respect of his master and was rewarded with new teachings.  That commitment is the key to success.  So many times, we show up and expect miracles, when they don't appear, we move onto something else.  When people hear this, and they realize that they haven't made the commitment, they understand that the reason for not getting a promotion or raise, lays not with the manager, but with themselves.

The next time you enjoy a bacon and eggs breakfast - consider that the hen showed up, but the pig was committed!

Another of my favorite themes can be found in the karate kid movie.  "Things not always as seem" - In your class, I have been challenged to make associations between seemingly dissimilar techniques, only to realize that they are truly related. Also, I have become more aware of my surroundings and more understanding of others.

Many times at work, we don't understand why we are asked to do something and therefore fail because we don't understand the goal. By putting myself in the requestor's shoes and considering why the request was made, quite often, I am more successful in producing the desired results.

As a Disaster Recovery Officer for my team, I can generally spot the holes in most Disaster Recovery Plans (before the disaster occurs) that many people overlook.  The awareness of the facility or situation, provides insight into many of the things that we take for granted everyday.

The day to day implications of this are huge.  Ask any non-martial artist "the last time you went to your car, did you have your keys out and ready?"  or " The last time you entered an unfamiliar building (hotel, corporate office, shopping mall), did you take time to notice where the emergency exists were?"  Very common safety tips that we overlook in our daily rush.

I guess to sum it up, the greatest lesson that I have learned from you is not how to defend myself, but how to avoid the need to defend myself.

Just a quick note of thanks for all your efforts on behalf of Kyle. MVKS is a great Karate School, and I know that Kyle gained a lot as one of your students! You and your staff helped to instill a love for Karate in Kyle, and I fully expect that he will choose to get back into it at some point in the future.

I chose MVKS to assist me in doing volunteer work, but the lesson I have learned here have not only help me do that, but have helped me in my everyday life as well. I enjoy the training, motivation, and friendships that I have developed at MVKS, and look forward to many more years here at MVKS.

It’s all about family value. At MVKS, you not only get a local school, with reasonable rates and fabulous family discounts, there’s so much more ...

We were looking for a local school to teach our son Kenpo Karate. As parents, we recognized that Karate would help us teach our son many valuable life lessons such as respect, honor and self esteem, only to mention a few. We specifically desired Kenpo because of the self-defense aspect of the art. When we looked at MVKS, we were truly blown away! Jim Peacock, the director of MVKS, teaches his students so much more than we ever expected. Children learn the value of goal setting and achievement. They learn to become self-aware while building on personal self-confidence that a child might not otherwise have the opportunity to develop.

Within a year of enrolling our son at the school, we had our entire family signed up. After four years, we are still impressed. This is the best investment we have ever made."

I chose MVKS to help my brother prepare for the police academy. Since that first day, I have  reaped so many benefits as a whole person. My mental and spiritual beings have been improved as well as my body. Martial Arts (e.g. Kenpo Karate) will always be a part of my life.
